How do Citi Bike gift cards work?

With gift cards, you can share a Citi Bike membership with anyone who has access to Citi Bike in New York City. If your recipient doesn't have a Citi Bike account yet, they can create an account for free and then redeem the Citi Bike gift card from their account.

Gift certificates cover the membership, but does not cover any extra time charges the recipient may incur. So even if they’re redeeming a gift certificate, they must keep an active credit or debit in their account.

How do I redeem my gift?

Citi Bike gift cards apply a membership to a Citi Bike account. To redeem a gift card, you can click the button in the gift card email you received or enter the code manually.

In the Citi Bike app

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of the Citi Bike app.
  2. Tap the menu icon and select Annual membership.
  3. Tap Join now.
  4. Tap Enter promo code and enter your gift code accessible from your email.
  5. Tap Activate.
  6. Your membership will activate immediately and you can start enjoying your benefits.

What are the terms and restrictions of a Citi Bike gift card?

  1. Once purchased, Citi Bike gift cards are non-refundable, cannot be used for cash, and cannot be resold.
  2. Gift card codes will not expire and can be redeemed by the recipient at any time. Once a gifted membership is added to a Citi Bike account, it cannot be transferred.

What if my recipient is already a member?

If your gift recipient is already a Citi Bike member, they’ll need to cancel their current membership in their app or through their account on the Citi Bike website, then let it expire. After expired, they’ll be able to redeem their gifted membership.

Can I buy physical gift cards in stores?

No, Citi Bike gift cards are only sold as e-gift cards in the digital Citi Bike store.

What if my recipient doesn’t receive their gift card?

When you purchase a digital gift card for a friend or family member, you’ll receive an email containing your receipt and the link to the gift card information. If you’re recipient doesn’t receive an email with their gift card information, you’ll be able to re-send them the gift card link. The code is valid until it is redeemed.

Citi Bike gift cards are redeemable in the US only. Citi Bike memberships purchased as gifts can only be used within the Citi Bike service area.
